Call for Participation

  • Are you eager to engage more deeply with open educational resources (OER)?
  • Have you had difficulty finding a low-or-no cost replacement for a high cost textbook?
  • Are you considering creating, combining, or remixing new or existing openly licensed content to bridge gaps in available resources?
  • Are you interested in joining a group of like minded individuals to encourage a teaching culture that explores new pedagogical models for learning?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, apply to be part of the Open CU Boulder 2023-2024 Course OER Creation or Adaptation Initiative! Selected project teams will be awarded a stipend of up to $8,000, to be paid in spring 2024 following successful project completion. Stipends are determined based on estimated time committed to the project and student cost savings, amongst other criteria.

Applications must be received on or before June 15th, 2023.

Eligibility

All faculty (tenure-track and non-tenure track) and GPTIs are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who will have a paid appointment in both Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.

International applicants and team members are encouraged to consult International Student and Scholar Services before applying, to confirm they would be able to accept the stipend of up to $8,000 that will be awarded to each selected project team.

Expectations

The project lead of each project selected for participation will be required to later sign a Memorandum of Understanding that details participation requirements, including:

  • attending trainings prior to completion of the OER

  • scheduling individual consultations with the OER Leads

  • publishing the OER with an open (Creative Commons) license

  • acknowledging Open CU support in the OER

  • submitting the completed OER by February 15, 2024, for inclusion in CU Scholar

  • submitting a brief final report by March 1, 2024

Adaptation or Creation

Adaptation defined

Adaptation projects may include proposals to adapt existing open textbooks by updating or localizing them or developing ancillary resources (such as question banks) to support existing open textbooks, including in collaboration with students (via open pedagogy) or with other faculty collaborators.

Creation defined

Creation projects may include proposals to author new open textbooks or other course materials in order to fill a current gap in OER offerings.

Application

Applications must describe the course materials you wish to create or redesign as OER. The applicant will provide a narrative that describes the project in detail, a project timeline, and indication of potential challenges to the creation or adaptation. As space is limited, the application process is competitive.

Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the University Libraries OER Leads to discuss their proposal.

Proposals should be formatted according to the application template and submitted by June 15th, 2023, via email to oerleads@colorado.edu:
