Sources should be independent of the subject. For example a person's webpage is not an acceptable source. However, often a source for someone being publicly out is not independent of that person, additionally how a person prefers to be described or labelled also often comes directly from that person. Ideally though sources used in Wikipedia are published by reliable, third-party publications known for fact-checking and accuracy such as:

Online access to major national and international newspapers, as well as local and regional titles. Also includes newswires, blogs, web-only content, videos, journals, magazines, transcripts and more.
