Theodore and Wilmatte Cockerell lived in Boulder from 1906 through the 1930s. Theodore taught entomology and zoology at the University of Colorado Boulder and Wilmatte was a high school biology teacher. The Cockerells were prolific scientists, publishing thousands of articles and traveling the world collecting specimens, many of which were previously unknown. The Cockerells were early adopters of using film in the classroom and documenting nature and landscapes in the Front Range. The film collection of the T.D.A. Cockerell Papers includes over 60 reels of film commissioned by the Cockerells centering on their explorations of plants and insects in Colorado.
