In this microcopy are reproduced 53 volumes that consist, for the most part, of notes from the Mexican Legation (Embassy from March 29, 1899) in the United States to the Department of State between November 30, 1821, and August 14, 1906.
The notes, with their enclosures, are arranged in chronological order. Among the enclosures are copies of official orders, letters of complaint against United States officials and citizens, pamphlets, newspapers, and other printed matter. Most of the communications are in Spanish; there are some English translations prepared by the Department of State.
Included in the volumes are some communications from Mexican consular officials in the United States and from White House officials, memoranda by State Department officials commenting on the notes, and drafts and texts of agreements between Mexico and the United States.
The records reproduced in this microcopy are part of a body of records in the National Archives designated as Record Group 59, General Records of the Department of State.
