CU Boulder Access to Elsevier Journals: Access to Non-Subscribed Journal Articles

For titles not included in the STL agreement, researchers will be able to request the articles they need from a new service called Article Galaxy Scholar or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process by which libraries request material from another library. The purpose is to obtain material that is not available in the local library. ILL is a free service for current students, faculty, and staff.

Article Galaxy Scholar (AGS) is a service provided by Reprints Desk that offers multiple options to provision access to articles that are open access, available via interlibrary loan, or available for purchase from publishers. In 2024-2025, the libraries will pilot AGS by purchasing articles on demand from 3562 journals published by Elsevier that are not included in our recently negotiated Shared Title List.

Articles will be delivered via email, generally within minutes of the request. Look for the “CU Full Text” links to initiate a request. Our systems will first look for an open access version of the article. If no OA options exist, it will automatically redirect your request to our interlibrary loan services. ILL services are free for all CU Boulder affiliates.

If there are multiple requests for the same journal, the libraries will either purchase articles on demand using Article Galaxy Scholar or initiate a subscription to the journal. Articles purchased on demand cost approximately $40. The Libraries will use savings from the negotiated journal cost reduction to cover these costs.
