Using OverDrive ebooks

OverDrive is available to University of Colorado Boulder students, faculty and staff.

  1. Go to CU's Overdrive site.
  2. Sign in using your CU identikey.
  3. After you borrow a title, you can:
    • Use the free Libby app to borrow and enjoy digital titles from your library on any device.
    • Send a Kindle Book (U.S. only) to your Kindle device or Kindle reading app. How to Borrow Kindle books.
    • Read, watch, or listen to a title right in your browser.
    • Download an ebook, then use free Adobe Digital Editions software to transfer it to a supported ereader.
    • (Windows only) Download an audiobook, then use OverDrive's free desktop app for Windows to transfer it to a supported MP3 player.

Guidelines for using OverDrive

  • OverDrive books could be ebook or audiobook format, so double-check to make sure that you are borrowing the option you prefer.
  • You can check out up to ten books from OverDrive at a time.
  • You can choose 7, 14, or 21 days for your checkout time.
  • You can renew a book as long as another user hasn't placed a hold it.
  • If a book is already checked out, you can click the "Hold" button to borrow it when it is returned.
