Depending on how studied an artist is, they may have full books about them, these are called "artists monographs." Generally these will all be shelved near each other at the same call number - try just searching your artists name in the Library Catalog. You will also find exhibition catalogues, which may be focused on a specific artist or be focused on a theme and include multiple artists - these can be especially valuable for emerging artists, as they are most likely to be written about in group shows. In these catalogues you'll often find scholarly essays that will place your artist in context and conversation with other artists around a theme. Sometimes these kinds of catalogues will appear when you search, but other times that information isn't available. You can try searching Google Books, or checking the artist's website and/or Wikipedia for a list of exhibitions.
