In May of 2018, Greta Thunberg won a climate-change essay contest competition in the Swedish publication Svenska Dagbladet, which was the launch point for this tireless activist's rise to worldwide acclaim. Though she began alone, she quickly rose to  fame and inspired young activists world wide.
