The Chicago Manual of Style Online provides you with all the information about Chicago-style citations from proper citation formatting to punctuation and style for both Notes and Bibliography and Author-Date citations. 

A Note About Punctuation

Please remember to use punctuation in your paper consistent with the style of punctuation that Dr. Whitehead approves. British and American style punctuation have different rules when it comes to punctuation and quotation marks, so please be consistent with your style throughout your paper.
