Zines

What Should I Put in My Zine?

"Zines tend to be a bricolage of various images, texts, and messages. Here is a list of just a few of the things you can do with the zine format:

  • Publish sketches, drawings, and mini-comics
  • Match recipes with whimsical illustrations
  • Mix words with images and textures
  • Print lines of poetry
  • Share a manifesto
  • …the list goes on

Basically, what you can include in a zine is only limited by your imagination."

Supplies You Will Need

To begin making your zine, all you need are 3 basic supplies:

  • Paper
  • A sharpie or pen
  • A stapler*

(*A stapler is completely optional. You can make a zine with only a single sheet of paper and a writing utensil.)

There is a lot you can do to be creative with just these three things, but you may also want:

  • Glue stick
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Magazines
  • Books (that you don't mind cutting up for collages)
  • Photographs
  • Printed/typed copies of your own words
  • Other crafting supplies (ribbon, glitter, paint, stickers, fabric, etc.)
  • Anything else that inspires you!
