Step 5: Reading to Evaluate

You may not think of it this way, but reading is an important part of the research process. When you read a piece of information (article, book chapter, etc.), you should critically analyze it and decide whether or not to use it as a source. Below are some resources to help you through this stage of the process.

Reading is part of the process. During or after reading some of the information you find, you may realize you need to go back to step 1 and rearrange your research question, you may discover new and useful keywords for searching, and you may discover where experts agree or disagree on a topic.

Evaluations coming up short?

If you find that when you evaluate your results they are not as useful as you first thought, what can you do? The research process is flexible and iterative, so this means you can go back to an earlier step and try to find something else.
